St. Isidore Farm

St. Isidore Farm is a 3rd generation family-owned farm located in North Pole, Alaska. They create organic compost from only native Alaskan grasses on their farm. After three years of composting, they sell the compost in bulk quantities.

Waste Me Naught

Waste Me Naught is an organics recycler operating in the Interior of Alaska. Waste Me Naught recovers food waste from big box stores and diverts it from the landfill. The waste is either sold to livestock farmers as supplemental animal feed or anaerobically fermented into organic soil amendments. They diverted almost 10,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill in April 2023 alone.

This is not a traditional compost product. The anaerobic fermentation process, also known as the Bokashi composting, creates liquid and solid soil amendments. The food waste is cut or shredded into small pieces and combined with microorganisms that naturally speed up the decomposition process. The waste is sealed in an airtight container and after two weeks, it has broken down into usable soil amendments. Waste Me Naught refers to the solid amendment as Soil Food “Kimchi” and the liquid as Soil Food “Kombucha.” “Kimchi” application can assist with weed control and increase microbial life in the soil when mulched into the soil. It is also great addition to an active compost pile to jumpstart the decomposition process.
